Matthew Mustapick Handmade Guitars
The Mustapick Baritone Guitar
What Is a Baritone Guitar?
The Mustapick baritone is very comfortable to hold, as it is somewhat smaller than the largest jumbo guitars. While the baritone's deep resonance sounds fantastic when strummed with the open chords all guitarists are familiar with, it opens up new challenges for more sophisticated players, inviting them to rethink their playing, and to discover new voicings and approaches for a new frequency register.

Listen to Thunderclouds: a phenomenal piece original music from The Analogues. I'm honored that one of my deep baritones contributes to their music. Take a few minutes to enjoy the other tracks available at their site.

"The first time I played Matt’s baritone instrument I knew it would become my primary baritone guitar for both the recording studio and the stage. The guitar plays like butter and has a punchy sound that is nothing short of phenomenal. I'm totally in love with it...it's bananas! Matt is so passionate about the guitars he builds. Being an advanced player himself, he’s very aware of what professional players are after. With this instrument Matt's making something much more than a baritone guitar."

The instrument is set up so that it can be strung with either normal strings or special .016 - .070 baritone gauge strings, or with sets of intermediate gauge values. With the .016 - .070 baritone strings the instrument is ideally suited to be tuned from A-A, a fifth lower than standard tuning, or with common open tunings transposed into this tuning range. For example, DADGAD players could can tune down to AEADEA and use the same chord forms they are familiar with. With normal (light or medium) gauge strings the instrument can be tuned down a whole step or two. Your Baritone/Deep Baritone guitar can be delivered in either configuration. I'm always available to consult with my customers, or anyone else about what string gauges could be ideal for various tunings and scale lengths.
